FOR OUR LATEST NEWS PLEASE CHECK THE ITALIAN WEBSITE

Thousands of children in Guatemala are of the poorest in the world.
They are needy of food, clothes, medicines, shelter and education.
Many of them are employed in heavy child labour.

“Problems hindering social development include high crime rates, illiteracy and low levels of education and health. Some 75,000 severely malnourished children have been identified, a consequence of three simultaneous emergencies: chronic poverty, drought and the coffee crisis. Some 67 per cent of indigenous children suffer from chronic malnutrition.” UNICEF REPORT (
http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/guatemala.html)

The situation is even worst!

APRIL – SEMANA SANTA
Holy Week is deeply felt and celebrated in Guatemala and a great feast for everyone.
The celebrations in ANTIGUA are world-famous, with colourful carpets prepared on the roads and the floors of churches, made with pine needles, coloured sawdust, flower petals and fruit. They are veritable works of art, as demonstrated by this carpet we photographed in the church of La Merced.

28 APRIL

CONGRATULATIONS to Signora Alessandra for your 85th birthday!
This kind lady, having heard about Children's Charity projects in Guatemala, asked her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to make a donation for Mayan children as a birthday gift - and the family has been particularly generous! Your donation will be a great help to many boys and girls this year.
VERY MANY THANKS, Signora Alessandra, to you and your family, for the great sensitivity you have shown and for your good heart.
